This fateful event forever became known as the Marikana Massacreand has formed the
cornerstone of AMCU’s notion that 16 August should be declared worker’s Day
7th Marikana Commemoration 2019
Massacre is a fatal incident that took place at the Lonmin Platinum mine on 16 August 2012.During this time, 37 workers were killed during a peaceful protest.
To commemorate this anniversary, the annual Marikana Massacre commemoration and wreath laying ceremony took place at the Koppie in Marikana where the 37 mineworkers were murdered.
