The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) marked May Day 2026 in the heart of Marikana – at Wonderkop Stadium and the historic Marikana Koppie – the day marked a powerful remembrance of the 34 mineworkers brutally massacred on 16 August 2012.
This is more than a commemoration – it is a living tribute to sacrifice, courage, and the unbroken spirit of the working class. AMCU continues to stand firmly against hollow, imported celebrations that erase South Africa’s true labour history, therefore AMCU continues to demand that 16 August be officially recognised as the national Workers’ Day.
Marikana Massacre is not forgotten. The struggle continues!
